If you've been following my IG or Facebook page lately you may have noticed a common theme to my creations this last week. Booze.
When it comes to drinking however, I'm more a wine drinker. Of course if I'm at a bar watching a game, there will be a beer in my hand. But these days, that's not happening. As for hard alcohol, sure if I'm out with friends I might try something new, but usually I stick to the vino. I have a cabinet with some selected liquors, but these are usually reserved for baking. A teaspoon here, a tablespoon there, nothing crazy. However I've been trying to come up with different flavors and treats that would catch your eye! So I decided to create a section in my blog for Boozy Bakes. You should totally be getting excited right about now!!
My first try was with adding some Frangelico to brownie batter, however I feel like the flavor didn't come thru quite well. I probably needed more or I needed a stronger alcohol. Next up, was a chocolate chip cookie with Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum. Fun right! These will definitely be tested again, however this time only the flavor of the spices came thru, but I think that has more to do with the size of the bake and the baking time. Had I baked them into cookies rather than in a pan I think the flavor would have come thru.
At this point the juices were flowing and I was coming up with other ways to get the booze in the bakes. (Let's get one thing straight, I'm not trying to get drunk, just add some flavor and warmth to some bakes.)
Moving on from anything baked, I decided to go the route of unbaked confections. So I made some Bourbon Chocolate Truffles, and Bourbon spiked marshmallows. BINGO! I finally got it. And while you can enjoy each of these on their own just as well, I have for you a short video here creating a most comforting cocoa.
On a day, like today here in Baltimore, where the snow is rushing to the ground and blanketing our streets, make one of these and just sit and watch from the comfort of your home.
