To Mati

What is the evil eye? It is a curse given by one person to another by way of a spiteful or bitter look. And typically the person receiving the look is unaware of what is happening. This is why wearing a pendant or a piece of jewelry adorned with the Mati is pretty much covered from this curse. No one needs negative energy, like jealousy, or anger in their lives! The less of this for me the better. But what happens if you are not prepared, and someone puts a hex on you? How do you know? For everyone it is different, but anything from a really bad day, unwelcome stress, ust altogether negative effects that make your every day life more difficult. This may continue for days without any other explanation. Be not afraid though; there are ways to remove these curses. You may want to perform a xematiasma or "an undoing of the eye." You can read more about this practice here.

It's no surprise though that the concept of the Mati dates back to Classical Antiquity. Much of what traditions and practices the Greeks continue to this day has been in practice for thousands of years. It's proof that one can continue to grow and exist in the new and modern era, but still keep the traditions of the past in their everyday lives. Most important is that while there is an simple understanding of the Mati, depending on who you talk to, everyone has their own belief regarding the evil eye. For me I look at it not necessarily as warding of evil, but that it collects it and keeps it away from me; it is basically bottled up in the eye or Mati.

Going back to start of this blog, I noted how there are so many ways people display the Mati, from home decor to body decor. Well, now you can enjoy a small treat at home with these decorated sugar cookies! Who knows if you eat the Mati, will it make you super protected? These are definitely a nice addition to an edible gift, one could include a few of these as part of a gift and a thank you! How ever you choose, and whatever your belief, these are nice treat with your daily coffee or tea.
